Description: The goal of this project is to support the transition of an existing geospatial data pipeline from Google Earth Engine as a data access layer to openly available datasets exposed through public (possibly STAC) catalogs. The student will analyze one or more input datasets currently retrieved from Earth Engine, identify equivalent sources available through open STAC APIs, and implement a prototype workflow to query, discover, and ingest these datasets directly from STAC-based services. The project will include dataset comparison, metadata harmonization, and adaptation of the existing pipeline to the new access pattern. The final deliverable will be a proof of concept demonstrating that at least one real pipeline component can be executed using public STAC datasets instead of Earth Engine.
Difficult level: High
Requirements:Basic knowledge of Python and geospatial data processing. Familiarity with APIs, JSON, raster data, and cloud-based workflows is beneficial. Knowledge of Google Earth Engine and the STAC specification is a plus but not mandatory.
