The software target is the computation of the so-called (residual) terrain correction, namely, the gravity effect produced by a (residual) digital terrain model (DTM) assuming a given mass density. Apart from some parameters, the main input data are the DTM and the coordinates where to evaluate the terrain gravity effect, which is the output. The algorithm is well consolidated and an already existing software in FORTRAN will be shared with the student, who has to create suitable user interfaces and makes it numerically efficient.
The implemented software will be part of the library of the ISG service, namely the largest database of geoid models of the world (https://www.isgeoid.polimi.it). The software has to be developed as a Python library.
